The Lovers, The Dreamers, and Me…
I often wax poetic on the subject of Jim Henson, and my everlasting love for his creations. Like a lot of people my age, I am a devoted fan of all things “Muppet”. To me, the true trinity of Muppet films are from the 1980′s (The Muppet Movie, Muppets Take Manhattan, and The Great Muppet Caper). Those movies defined my idea of what a Muppet movie should be, and while I enjoyed the movies made after that, none of them were quite the same.
Fast forward to Jason Segel’s, The Muppets, which was a true love letter to the great 1980′s films that all of us 30-somethings grew up with. With that movie came a sort-of Muppet renaissance, with our favorite characters (my favs are Fozzie and Rowlf) making the talk show rounds, and there was even a album of established musicians singing covers of great Muppet tunes.
In all of the revelry, I could not help but be a little disappointed that my favorite song, the song that will play at my wedding (should I ever finally find the Mr. to my Mrs.), the song that all other Muppet songs are measured against…was nowhere to be seen. It wasn’t just missing from the more recent Muppet tributes, it is practically missing from all corners of the world (and by “world”, I mean “internet”). You cannot purchase the song as a single. You cannot find it in any downloadable form anywhere. There are a few videos on youtube from the film, but still, I could not get satisfaction for this song I love.
Then, after eons of searching, I finally found it. A man by the name of Tim Wiencek had done a cover for his sister’s wedding…and my heart melted.
The song I have so loved, since I was a child, is just a mouse-click away.
